Learn what tools we carry onboard and why, what we stock our repair kit with when we’re heading offshore or on a long cruise, and the nuances of selecting and storing tools properly to maximize their longevity. We’ll cover specialized tools and supplies for mechanical and electrical systems, your rig, sails, and more. We’ll also discuss some of the most common repairs and projects you should be prepared to address. Finally, we’ll give you resources and recommendations on what, where, and how to acquire some of the coveted hands-on repair skills that can make or break your cruise.
November 4 and 6, 2025
This class is a must for any sailor who wants to understand the core of their boat’s energy storage system: batteries. We’ve developed this curriculum for beginners, so if you are just starting to become familiar with your boat’s batteries you are in the right place. You will learn about the differences between AC and DC power and how your batteries play an integral role in both systems. You’ll also learn about the different types of batteries available, principles of how they function, and their respective advantages and disadvantages on offshore cruising boats.
