Leg 3 crew met us aboard the Garcia Exploration 45 Obelix at beautiful Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham, WA on a lovely June afternoon. The summer sailing crowds hadn't yet descended upon the islands, as evidenced by the abundance of boats at the dock and absence of lines at the showers. A welcome treat for a boat full of sailors who are soon to be heading off to see and won't touch land again for several days! This leg showcased incredible conditions and challenges for training. From navigating into and out of the notorious fickle Deception Pass at dawn, to bashing out the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and learning how to manage a truly exquisite modern expedition cruising yacht. Without out a doubt one of the most memorable stops was our private class and tour at the Port Townsend Sails loft.
