We are Gio & Julie Cappelli, a couple of marine biologists who retrained as certified marine professionals.
We know what it takes to start cruising quickly and safely, because we did it ourselves. Five months after we bought our first bluewater cruising boat we sailed 10,000 nautical miles across the Pacific.

Training expeditions are fun offshore sail training experiences following John Neal's Mahina Expeditions curriculum aboard a bluewater boat. You'll master seamanship, navigation, maintenance, & more. 2024 & 2025 expeditions will explore British Columbia and Alaska.

Boat refit & readiness consultation
An evaluation of offshore refit projects you are currently considering tackling and priority project recommendations. Consideration is given to your cruising goals, technical and mechanical skills, timeline to departure, budget, cruising grounds, and lifestyle preferences.
Cruising skills seminars
It's true, we really love teaching! Cruising boat maintenance, hands on workshops, online classes, and boat show seminars keep us busy and we love it. We've got a pretty stellar seminars on the calendar for 2024 - check them out and we hope to see you there!
NEW offshore logbook
We are excited to announce the release of our offshore logbook. This rugged logbook is rooted in our passagemaking experience with input from John Neal and printed on rite-in-the-rain paper. Many thanks to Backstay for making our logbook dreams come true!
