If you and your boat are planning to make the "Big Left Turn" out the Strait of Juan de Fuca and head for warmer waters in 2025, why not do it in good company?
Join us on this offshore flotilla as we begin our southern migration aboard Sea Fox and sail NONSTOP FROM WASHINGTON TO SAN FRANCISCO - a true offshore passage - in early September.
This is one of the more difficult passages you can undertake as it traverses the world's longest lee shore.
THE PLAN All boats will rendezvous on an agreed upon date to stage for a group departure from the Olympic Peninsula and should plan to sail nonstop to San Francisco, CA. We expect this to be a 7-10 day passage but it is extremely condition dependent.
THE SKILLS This is not a training expedition. You are completely responsible for sailing your own boat, which must pass a pre-departure safety and systems inspection (this is a good thing, and we'll teach you how!).
THE SPECS This flotilla terminates in San Francisco, CA. Precise group departure date will depend on conditions. Deadline to join is June 1, 2025.
The experience begins long before departure. We start with briefings soon after you sign up, followed by safety and mechanical inspections (which we will guide you on how to do) to make sure you and your boat are ready.
Next, you'll attend our exclusive preparation seminar which will walk you through the entire experience. You'll learn about safety, weather routing, passage planning specific to this area, offshore communications, and places to visit after the flotilla portion of the trip concludes.
As your offshore flotilla expedition leaders, we will provide you with our favorite guidebooks, briefing maps for the trip, an Offshore Sailing Logbook and Single Engine Maintenance Logbook, and our commitment to answer all of your questions throughout your preparations and while at sea.
This is not a rally, nor is it a pleasure cruise. This is an organized group of well-prepared boats and crew who are undertaking a serious, challenging offshore passage together.
There are no planned stops until we reach San Francisco, CA. Stops will only be made if deemed to be prudent seamanship given weather or ocean conditions.
Cruising guides, Offshore Sailing Logbook, Single Engine Maintenance Logbook, and planning maps.
Detailed safety and mechanical inspection checklists that you can use for future passages and cruising.
1:1 time with us pre-departure analyzing your inspection findings, questions, and concerns.
Daily at-sea weather and routing briefings, including guidance from professional weather routing service.
Monitoring of a pre-selected VHF channel 24/7 and quickly respond to questions or issues.
The flotilla fee is $3,500 per boat with a 50% deposit due at sign up to hold your position. This is serious sailing and your commitment should match that.
Moorage fees and meals out are not included.
The deadline to join the flotilla is June 1, 2025.
